SCH Site Services is so happy to have been awarded the contract the new Durham Bus Station Project from Durham County Council. This project marks SCH’s 10th Durham City Centre Project. The new Steel frame structure will replace the existing 1970s structure and will provide new first class facilities and help improve access to public transport.
“The tender process was rather arduous and was assessed against strict criteria. Like all tenders for Durham County Council – you only have one shot at submitting your quote so it was imperative that we got it right first time,” said the SCH Estimating Manager.
SCH were really keen to secure the project at Durham Bus Station as it is exactly the type of project that they excel in as it poses several challenges. Any contractor working on the project is required to safely navigate the challenges of working in close proximity to the general public, traffic and a busy shopping street. Luckily for SCH, they have had recent experience of working on The Three Tuns Student Accommodation Project in Durham City Centre which had another tricky tight foot print to work within.
On completion, the new bus station will vastly improve the level of service of public transport within Durham City. It has been designed to increase the overall space for passengers in a new light and airy setting. It will provide increased facilities for the general public and give more seating and space in the new waiting areas.
