Urgent Treatment Centre - RVI, Newcastle
SCH Site Services was proud to work alongside Robertson Construction North East on the steelwork package for this essential healthcare upgrade.

Our structural work played a key role in ensuring the building could meet the needs of both patients and medical staff, creating a space that is practical, durable, and accessible.
The Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle upon Tyne is a major NHS teaching hospital and trauma centre, with a legacy dating back to the 18th century. Today, it plays a critical role in providing care across the region as part of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Project Overview
Earlier this year, work began on a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) on-site at the RVI, a facility purpose-built to handle non-life-threatening but urgent medical cases. Located directly next to the Emergency Department, the UTC was designed to improve patient flow and relieve pressure on the main A&E, while still offering round-the-clock urgent care.
SCH Site Services’ Role
SCH Site Services was proud to work alongside Robertson Construction North East on the steelwork package for this essential healthcare upgrade.
Our responsibilities included:
· Supplying and installing the primary structural steel frame for the new facility
· Navigating tight site boundaries adjacent to the live hospital environment, including proximity to the active helipad, which required careful planning and coordination
· Collaborating closely with project partners to ensure safe, phased installation with minimal disruption to hospital operations
This project demanded a high level of precision, co-ordination, and awareness of critical site constraints, all of which were successfully managed by our experienced team.
Supporting Better Patient Care
The UTC has been developed to provide faster access to urgent care, while freeing up resources within the hospital’s core Emergency Department. Our structural work played a key role in ensuring the building could meet the needs of both patients and medical staff, creating a space that is practical, durable, and accessible.
Projects like this one show that even modest-sized jobs can carry real regional importance. SCH Site Services was pleased to contribute our expertise to help enable better healthcare delivery for the people of Newcastle and beyond.
AT SCH, WE PROVIDE A PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY SERVICE, WORKING WITH YOU FROM THE START TO FINISH OF YOUR PROJECT.
