The Locomotion

SCH Site Services is pleased to be able to share details about our recent project, where we were entrusted with the construction of a building specifically designed for children and adults with a passion for trains. This venture involved the erection of a 13-bay mono-pitch roof structure and involved a total weight of around 90 tons.

A Collaborative Project

For this project, we had the pleasure of working alongside the innovative team at Nationwide Rail, a new collaboration that opened doors to exciting opportunities. As with many of our projects, the construction called for a combination of hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel to craft a robust framework. The structure features an entrance lobby and boasts a powder-coated and galvanized plant enclosure to ensure durability and longevity.

Seamless Collaboration

Recognising the complexities and nuances of this project, we enlisted the expertise of a trusted subcontract erection company, MP Site Services, based in Shildon. Their local knowledge and dedication to precision were invaluable in aiding the smooth and efficient erection of this museum.

Value-Adding Variations

Throughout the project, we facilitated numerous variations to meet the evolving needs of our client. These included the addition of steels to serve as a partition wall, specialised vent steelwork, and supplementary rails, all of which contributed to the functional and aesthetic aspects of the structure.

Specialised Lifting

The museum's distinctive feature is its incorporated rail track. SCH Site Services took on the responsibility of offloading and positioning the rail track with the precision and safety of a contract lift. Our 70-ton crane and the main frame were crucial in this process.
