Redcar Station Redevelopment

Redcar Central Station is undergoing a major transformation and SCH Site Services is proud to be part of the team breathing new life into this iconic piece of railway heritage.

Originally opened in the mid-1800s, Redcar Station is a Grade II-listed building rich in history and architectural character.

After years of disrepair, the site is now being redeveloped into a vibrant community and commercial hub, blending modern rail facilities with new hospitality, retail, and flexible working spaces. The wider project is being led by Robertson Construction, supported by local and national funding through the Levelling Up Fund.

SCH Site Services' Role

We’ve been supporting Robertson Construction on structural elements throughout:

· Chimney stack support steelwork- Installed early in the project to ensure safe retention of key structural features

· Main structural steelwork - Supplied and erected within the existing building shell, carefully integrated into the historic framework

· Columns and floor steels - Precisely installed to create the internal structure for the station’s future uses

· As part of the station’s architectural preservation, we also fabricated a number of decorative capitals, faithful replicas of the original components. These will be painted and installed as finishing touches, helping maintain the station’s traditional Victorian character.

Project Progress

With the main steel structure now in place, the building has begun to take its new shape. While precast concrete stairs and the canopy installation are still to come, our core steelwork phase is now complete, a milestone we’re incredibly proud of.

A Heritage Project with Modern Purpose

Delivering projects in listed, heritage environments comes with added responsibility, balancing structural upgrades with sensitivity to the original design.

This project marks another successful step in restoring a historic community asset and building something that will serve Redcar for generations to come.
